Susan Boyle: I Dreamed A Dream

Posted in Marketing by Wendy Maynard on the April 15th, 2009

The Internet is abuzz with Susan Boyle.

Susan Boyle is a forty-seven year old woman. She’s frumpy and awkward, with an odd dress, no make-up, and bushy eyebrows. She’s unemployed, lives alone with her cat, and has never even been kissed. Susan is not the typical person we expect to do well on stage - we have been trained to expect youth, beauty, sex appeal, and glamor.

And . . . this woman had a dream. She took a HUGE leap and stepped out onto the stage in front of the world’s eyes to audition for Britain’s Got Talent.

She told the emcees with conviction, “I’m going to rock it.”

When she stepped out there, the audience and the judges rolled their eyes. She started talking and said she had aspirations of being like the esteemed Elaine Paige. “No way!” we all thought.

And then Susan Boyle began to sing. And within two bars, Simon’s eyebrows rose. And beauty poured out of this woman’s mouth. Everyone watching was amazed…and humbled…and moved.

When Susan Boyle allowed the world to see her inner beauty, she set an example for us all.

I have watched the video several times. Because when I watch Susan Boyle, I see a part of me. It’s a part of me that has a dream.

I dream of being bigger…playing bigger…living bigger…teaching bigger…reaching bigger…loving bigger.

It is the part of me that is taking a risk to step more fully into my brilliance. Susan Boyle had a dream. I have a dream. You have a dream.

What are you dreaming?

Will you step out onto that stage?

Will you take that big leap to live it?

Such an amazing voice, and what a wonderful post. Everyone was lifted by her voice, if you look at Simone’s face, he is beaming and open. We all have a dream and she showed us that no matter where you end up in life, there is always a chance to start new.
